37yrs old man jailed 6-months touching girls breast...

By Monsuru Olowoopejo

An Ikeja magistrate’s Court, weekend, sentenced a 37-year-old man, Ibrahim Abu, to six months imprisonment for touching the breast of a 17-year-old girl (names withheld) without her consent.

Abu, who lives at 6, Mosque Close, Isheri-Olofin, Lagos State, was arraigned before Magistrate Osusanmi and sentenced last Friday for sexually assaulting the girl Monday last week.

Vanguard gathered that the girl was asked by her parents to learn hairdressing, while awaiting the release of her Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, SSCE, result.

It was learned that at 7:30p.m.

last week Monday, while she was returning home, Abu accosted the victim at Baale Bus Stop Akowonjo, and touched her breast without seeking her consent.

It was gathered that in retaliation, she slapped Abu and he hit her with a plank; she reportedly fell, became unconscious and was rushed to a hospital.

Abu was later arrested by policemen attached to Shasha Police Station and the case reported to Domestic, Sexual Violence Response Team, DSVRT.

Delivering her judgment, Osusanmi said the offence contravened Section 135 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

File: Reacting over the judgement, Coordinator of DSVRT, Mrs.

Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said:

While we are pleased with this conviction, this case depicts the current height of impunity with which abusers act.

The success of this conviction can be linked to DSVRT’s early engagement with the concerned victim and collaboration with the police, who despite the pleas and pressures from members of the society, ensured that the case was charged to court.

The role of the society in encouraging victims to speak out, protect victims and encourage justice is now crucial more than ever..

 …put in Sex

Offenders’ Register

Vivour-Adeniyi disclosed that “the defendant’s name and details have been entered into the Sex Offenders Register.

We, therefore, use this medium to implore members of the society and stakeholders to play their roles in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence...

music-l producers dont even car k-solo laments...

K-solo is undoubtedly one of the music producers who have been instrumental to the success of notable Nigerian artistes like Timaya and Kefee.

Just the way artistes are recognised and rewarded, K-solo hopes that music producers will get their due recognition.

The talented music maker made this known in an exclusive chat with Showtime.

Music producers don’t get their due recognition. It’s beyond producing a song.

I started the voice signature concept for the songs I produced before every other producer started it.

Aside that, we don’t get any other recognition. Check out many artistes in Nigeria, most of them have big houses and drive good cars, but these young music producers have nothing. Most of them don’t even have a car.

They have produced major hit songs that have built houses for some of these artistes.

The biggest accolade you get as a music producer is accompanying a popular artiste to an event. That is the end of it.

In the USA, music producers live like celebrities.

How many music producers have gotten an endorsement deal aside from Cobhams and Don Jazzy?

We cannot develop the music industry that way. OJB produced African Queen and he died without an endorsement deal.

There are only a few of us who have other businesses outside of  music”, he said.

Court suspends PDP's August 17th convention

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has suspended the National convention of PDP being organized by the Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the party slated for August 17th in Rivers state.

The embattled factional chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff, had approached the court to seek an interlocutory injunction against the convention.

Makarfi and a member of the National caretaker committee of the party, Ben Obi, had immediately applied that they be joined in Sheriff's suit as co-defendants.

Hearing on their Application was slated for today but Obi had earlier in the day gone to the Port Harcourt Division of the Federal High Court where he was able to secure an ex'parte order that INEC and the police participate and monitor the August 17th party convention.

An angry Justice Okon lambasted Obi for rushing to the Port Harcourt Division of the Federal High Court to obtain the ex parte order.
“Senator Ben Obi cannot treat the court with levity.
What is the reason for rushing to another court when the court is already seized of this matter?
I want to point out that a court of coordinate jurisdiction cannot make an order that will neutralise the proceedings of this court.
The Port Harcourt Division of this court cannot make an order to neutralise the proceedings of this court"he said Futhermore, Justice Okon said "To maintain the dignity and integrity of the court and in the over all interest of justice, taking into consideration the competing claims of the parties, an order is hereby made in the interim suspending the PDP convention slated for August 17, 2016, pending when the plaintiff motion on notice dated July 20 is served and heard” he said.

boko haram releases new video alleged chibok girls..

Boko Haram on Sunday released a video of the girls allegedly kidnapped from Chibok in April 2014, showing some who are still alive and claiming others died in air strikes.

The video is the latest release from embattled Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, who earlier this month denied claims that he had been replaced as the leader of the jihadist group.

They should know that their children are still in our hands,” said a man whose face was covered by a turban in the video posted on YouTube.

There is a number of the girls, about 40 of them, that have been married by the decision of Allah,” said the man in the 11-minute video, which shows girls with veils sitting on the ground and standing in the background.

Some of them have died as a result of aerial bombardment.

The mass kidnapping of 276 Chibok schoolgirls in April 2014 provoked global outrage and brought unprecedented attention on the Boko Haram conflict, in which at least 20,000 people have been killed since 2009.

Throughout 2015, the Nigerian military announced the rescue of hundreds of people, most of them women and children, who have been kidnapped by Boko Haram. But the missing schoolgirls were not among them, despite several unconfirmed sightings...
